Time-resolved Tomographic Particle Image Velocimetry (TPIV) of a cap bubble wake made visible by fluorescent dye.

Welcome to the FLOW Lab at UC Berkeley!

Our research focuses on the advancement of the physical understanding of high-Reynolds number single- and multiphase flows. The present focus is on flows relevant to energy production, offshore applications, and naval hydrodynamics. Our research combines advanced experimental techniques, instrument development, and theoretical model development.

Assistant Professor Simo A. Mäkiharju is the FLOW lab’s director, a co-director of the Physical Model Test Facility at Richmond Field Station, a co-director of the Marine Mechanics Lab with Prof. Ronald W. Yeung as a collegial collaborator, and one of the founding members and steering committee member of the Berkeley Industrial Research Center.
